SPAIN (PIX11) — Soccer superstar Lionel Messi is being accused by tax authorities in Spain of ripping the state off of more than 4 million euros – or in American terms — $5.3 million dollars.

Prosecutors allege that Messi and his father Jorge filed bogus tax returns in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

The criminal complaint was submitted for trial this week in Gava – the Barcelona district with the Argentina forward lives. A judge will now determine whether any charges can be brought against the pair.
