SUNSET PARK, Brooklyn (PIX11) – A Papa John’s delivery driver has been busted for allegedly delivering cocaine to customers as part of a drug trafficking ring.

Rodriguez was arrested Wednesday following his largest sale of narcotics to an undercover officer: a kilo of cocaine.

Officials say Rodriguez met officers in front of the Papa John’s where he worked, located on the 5800 block of 5th Avenue. Rodriguez allegedly went inside the restaurant and returned with a bag, a pizza box and a chicken nuggets box. He was arrested after he placed the bag in the officer’s car. Inside the bag was $27,000 worth of cocaine.

Over the course of the investigation, which started in the Fall of 2011, officials say Rodriguez would often arrange the sales over the phone with an undercover officer, telling them he was interrupting deliveries to make the drops. Once cops say he even transported the cocaine inside a pizza box containing several slices alongside 20 grams of cocaine.

All totaled, cops say Rodriguez delivered more than $45,000 worth of cocaine.

He’s charged with four counts of criminal sale of a controlled substance in the 1st degree, 15 counts of criminal sale of a controlled substance, and one count of criminal possession of a controlled substance.

He was probably the middle man. Let's see if he takes the fall alone or drags others with him.

Let's be honest. Delivering pizzas is not exactly a lucrative career. One wonders if it could be considered defensible to deliver drugs if it would mean a better living for your family?
