Investigators in California are still trying to figure out how a limo, with nine passengers and a driver, burst into flames over the weekend.

The nine women, including the bride to be, were on their way to a bridal party in Foster City.  The limo was crossing the San Mateo bridge when the back of the limo started smoking.  The driver pulled over to the side, when the vehicle burst into flames.

Five of the women were killed; investigators said several of them appear to have tried to escape through the tiny window in the partition. Their bodies were found huddled on top of one another under the partition.

The driver, Ricky Brown was not hurt, but four passengers suffered burns and smoke inhalation.

Authorities say it was one of the worst incidents they’d seen in a long time.
