Step into Longbow Pub and Pantry on Third Avenue in Bay Ridge and you step into a world of British delights from the old speckled hen ale in the fish and chips batter to the real football also known on soccer on all the TV screens at the bar.
“We are looking for people who understand British culture,” owner Michael Colbert told PIX 11.
So when the Welsh born owner and his Brooklyn Born wife from Bergen Beach put out a ad on Craigslist for a new bartender they wrote: “being British definitely works in your favor.” They also wrote ” being an ex-pat or having lived in the U.K. Also a plus.”
But the New York City Commission on Human Rights said the bar had violated discrimination law “by giving a preference to employment applicants based on their national origin. The commission offered to settle the matter for $2500.
“They are taking a mole hill and turning it into a mountain.” Colbert said.
And they want to have their day in court so a “conciliation meeting” with the Human Rights Commission is scheduled for next month.
“I am looking forward to it,” Ms. Colbert said.
