New York City beefs up security for weekend events

(CENTRAL PARK) – The NYPD isn’t taking any chances. Security at a four mile race tomorrow here in Central Park will be beefed up greatly.

In partnership with the New York Roadrunners Club,The NYPD has stepped up security measures surrounding the annual City Parks Foundation Run scheduled for Sunday morning starting at the Rumsey Playfield.

Additional uniformed and plainclothes cops will be on hand along with 100 mobile cameras focused on the race route from the East drive to the West ending along 72 street close to Bethesda Fountain.

People enjoying Central Park today say the extra security is a good thing.

Runners are being discouraged from bringing backpacks and bags. If they do, all contents will be placed into clear plastic bags for safety.

Trash cans will be removed and portable toilets will be at the two mile mark.
