NBC barred Ann Curry from sending ‘enemy’ Robin Roberts a sympathy tweet: report
The drama chronicles at NBC’s The Today Show appear to be in a non-stop news cycle with every day bringing more shady revelations — and plenty of tabloid fodder — over the demise of the once-top rated morning show following the messy ouster of ex-host Ann Curry.
And at the center of it all – is Matt Lauer.
In this week’s explosive New York Magazine piece, featuring cover boy Lauer, writer Joe Hagan says Lauer “simply didn’t like” Curry, and was a main player in having her removed.
The report puts a very nasty light on NBC top brass where in one incident Curry, who had already left the Today desk, asked NBC if she could tweet a note of sympathy to Good Morning America co-host Robin Roberts who was undergoing treatment for MDS.
NBC said no, citing it would look like “she was trying to aid the enemy.”
Despite all the back and fourth he-said, she-said, Curry has taken the high road and remained silent.
It’s clear viewers have taken a side, however. ‘GMA’ is now the number 1 morning news program, regularly beating ‘Today’ in the ratings, putting an end to NBC’s 16-year-long winning streak in the top spot.
