Principal O’Mard covered his head and refused to answer questions as he left Nassau District Court this afternoon.
The educator who taught children for more than 20 years is now charged with sleeping with a 16-year-old boy last September after the two met on an online dating website for gay men called Grindr. After chatting on the site for about a week, police say the two set up a meeting.
It wasn’t until days later that police say the boy realized O’Mard was his former principal. Police say the teen eventually told a friend about the incident. That friend contact school officials.
Meanwhile, family members of students who currently attended the school say they were shocked and concerned by the allegations.
Today in court, O’Mard plead not guilty to the charges.
Right now it’s not clear whether or not the principal was aware of the boys age or the fact that the teen was a former student. But O’Mards lawyer cited his clients record as an educator and stood by principal.
Tonight police are asking if there are any other victims out there that they come forward.
If O’Mard is convicted on all four counts he faces up to four years in Prison.
