Mother killed, baby survives after plunging 8 stories from Manhattan apartment

Tragedy struck a Central Harlem family as a mother and her ten-month-old son were found along Bradhurst Avenue near the corner of 147th Street shortly past 3 p.m.   An NYPD Captain on the scene told PIX 11 News that the mother and son fell from an eight-story window.

The woman died, but the baby survived.   The child underwent exams and is in critical but stable condition at a local hospital.  The child’s father and woman’s husband was not at the scene after the incident.

A police officer on the scene said that the investigation was being treated as a suicide.

One neighbor told  PIX 11 News he heard the couple fighting all day, but did not here the shattering of the glass.

The couple had lived in the building for at least three years.
