Monsignor Otto Garcia of Joan of Arc Church says this is perhaps the Catholic Church’s boldest acknowledgement yet — that it is turning its focus not to millions of faithful, on the other side of the Atlantic.

“It’s significant that for years they’ve for years have ben to talking about electing someone from South America”, said monsignor Garcia.
