(MERRICK) – The Meadowbrook Parkway was littered with state highway patrol investigators throughout Monday afternoon trying to identify what led to men being struck and killed on the Parkway at approximately 12:30 p.m.
A broken down Nissan Maxima still sat on an elevated stretch of the Meadowbrook. Its driver’s side door mangled and pushed backwards against its side. Several yards in front of it, two sheets covered the bodies that highway patrol say were “flung” after being struck by a GMC pick-up with Virginia plates.
The vehicles involved were all privately owned. The investigation shutdown a 1/4 mile stretch for most of the day and backed up traffic for miles in the midst of rush hour. Law enforcement say that the driver remained at the scene for hours and was cooperating with authorities as they investigate all possible causes.
The identities of the two victims have not been released.
