Fashion trucks hit the road as mobile boutiques around NYC
HARLEM (PIX11) — Fashion trucks are the latest shopping sensation and they are popping up around the city.
The latest one is truly like a deals on wheels – complete with velvet ropes that line the entrance of the parked delivery truck – Celebrities Mobile Boutique has everything you need to look like a star and the best part, it won’t break the bank.
Owner Nneka Green-Ingram started the mobile boutique business in November of 2012. Since then, the truck’s popularity in the Harlem spot on 125th Street has taken off. “Harlem is known for their fashion sense so I thought this was a great fit for them,” said Green-Ingram.
“I got an old Frito Lay delivery truck and gutted it. Went to Ikea and bought shelving and flooring and wella!” said Green-Ingram who used to work as a bus driver for the MTA.
We asked her how she chooses the accessories she sells on her shelves. “I look at magazines and television. Like, last night at the Oscars, I saw what they were wearing and they had a lot of metal. I’m up on the trend, so here, you have your metal pieces. All you need is a simple dress. Throw that necklace on and you look ready for the red carpet,” she said showcasing
The best part about the Celebrities Mobile Boutique is the pricing. Every item you see is from $5 up to $30.
There is not just bling for yourself. The truck also offers blinged out office supplies! That’s right, picture cheetah print staplers designed out of crystals.
If you have time to sit before or after you shop, Green-Ingram will personally give you a full makeover at her ‘beauty bar’ for only half the price at $40.
Women are not the only ones who can benefit from the boutique, men can too. Green-Ingram has an entire section devoted to men’s accessories like stainless steel bracelets and necklaces, watches and sunglasses.
Green-Ingram says her goal is to make everyone feel good after they shop her boutique. “When they leave Celebrities Mobile Boutique, I promise you, they will leave feeling and looking like a star!”
You can find the truck on 125th and Lenox in harlem from Thursdays through Sundays. She also parks her truck in the SOHO area.
Green-Ingram plans to add more days throughout the week once the weather gets warmer in the Spring and Summer.
