BREEZY POINT, QUEENS (PIX11)– Barbara Joyce has lived in Breezy Point since she was 5-years-old.
But after Sandy destroyed her home, the 78-year-old cancer survivor never thought it would be the same.
With the help of hundreds of volunteers from Operation Blessing and Bank of America, less than four months after her home was destroyed it was rebuilt better than before.
Volunteers rebuilt the home in three stages.
Gutting the home after it was ruined, rebuilding the interior, and then putting on the finishing touches.
All of the hard work led up to a memorable homecoming.
Even though she’ll never be able to recover the pictures and memories she made in her old home, Joyce says she looks forward to making new memories in her new home.
She even wants to help others get back on their feet by donating her own time whenever she can.
