Law enforcement officials in New York will soon have a new tool to help track and combat violent prescription drug related crimes.

The move comes after a deadly pharmacy shooting on long island where an off duty ATF agent was killed. The tool is a database that would help police identify developing patterns.

It’s modeled after a database used by police to track other types of crimes. Schumer said the tool could be a model for other states.
