Space Shuttle Challenger anniversary: See how PIX11 covered the NASA tragedy in 1986

The Space Shuttle Challenger exploded 73 seconds  after liftoff from Cape Canaveral on Jan. 28, 1986, at 11:39 a.m.The disaster killed the seven astronauts on board, including Christa McAuliffe, who was to be the first teacher in space.

PIX11′s Marvin Scott covered the story for WPIX, and has dipped into his archives to share original reports — just as they aired in 1986 — of the tragedy’s aftermath.
