NEW YORK (PIX11) - New York Senator Ruben Diaz is making headlines after taking to the floor of the state’s assembly, to speak out against the new anti-gun bill dubbed as being the toughest in the nation.
While the Democrat admitted he was voting in favor of the bill he called a “Democratic bill,” his speech would have suggested otherwise. Diaz stressed that passing the bill would make no difference because mental health was the bigger issue at hand, not fire arms.
“Nothing’s gonna change,” he said. “It’s not the weapon, it’s not the revolver, it’s not the rifle. It’s the mind.”
The senator’s remarks were made moments before he voted in favor of the bill.
Senator Ruben’s impromptu speech is being hailed by conservatives who share his sentiment that firearms aren’t the problem, rather it’s the mental state of the person in possession of it.
