LONG ISLAND (PIX11) – It is a case that has so many more questions than answers, as investigators try to determine what exactly happened to a 4-year-old boy who was found dead inside an Amityville home.

The mystery began on Wednesday when Suffolk County police received a 911 call around 3:50 p.m. from a man asking for medical help at 90 Ketcham Avenue.

When police arrived they discovered the four-year-old boy unconscious and badly bruised lying on a couch inside a first floor apartment.

However, the man who made the 911 call from inside that apartment was gone – vanished before first responders even arrived.

The boy was rushed to Good Samaritan hospital but was sadly pronounced dead at around 6 p.m. in the evening.

Police set up a major crime scene, quickly calling the boy a “victim of violence,” declaring this a homicide case.

Neighbors who live nearby said the boy had a six-year old sister and may have been living with foster parents who often kept to themselves.  Neighbors also say they moved in about a year ago.

Police have not seen or heard from anyone who lived with the boy since Wednesday’s incident.

The boy’s body will now go to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death as the investigation and search for the 911 caller continues.
