Viagra being used to treat babies

When you think of Viagra, you usually think about older men with problems like erectile dysfunction.  But, how about doctors using Viagra for infants?

Doctors around the country are using Viagra to help treat infants with heart and breathing problems and it’s working!

How does it work?

Viagra was originally used to help treat pulmonary hypertension or high blood pressure in the blood vessels of the lungs and the erectile benefit was a side effect that was noticed by accident.  They didn’t develop Viagra as an E.D. drug.

It turns out that the medication actually helps open up the arteries in children’s lungs, allowing the blood to flow more easily and improves oxygen flow to the lungs.  It also helps lower high blood pressure so their hearts don’t have to work so hard.
