A state commission is ready to recommend  the installation of rolldown gates at subway station entrances in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

The gates presumably would do a better job of keeping water out. Right now plywood is now used.

The MTA says Sandy caused nearly 5 billion dollars in damage.
