Do you want to know before you leave for the station when certain subway trains are arriving? Now there’s an app for that.

MTA released “MTA Subway Time” at the end of December in the Apple App store. It basically turns an iPhone into a subway countdown clock. There is no charge for the app.

The information is also available for free to outside, 3rd-party developers and as an on line site. A few days after the release, a NYC based company called The Holodeck released a free beta version for Android. Comments are encouraged.

The information is available now only for the 1,2,3,4,5 & 6 trains and the Times Square Shuttle. The MTA says the lettered lines, which are older, will not have countdown clocks or timing information for at least 2 -3 years.
