Officers responding to the scene at Sandy Hook Elementary School

Some Newtown police officers were so traumatized over the shooting that they have not been working.

Officers have dipped into their sick time and could soon be at risk of not getting paid when the time runs out.

The union is talking with the town’s insurer, lawmakers, and the governor’s office, and asking them to change state law and expand worker’s compensation benefits for officers who witness horrific crime scenes.
