Correct you are, if we were allowed to go at least 65 without spending so much time looking for police this road would be much safer.

If the speed limit was posted at 65 people would just go 75 (which everyone here already does). I plan my route accordingly (my job has me driving all over the island) and I am always on time or a couple minutes after or before and I go 55 tops 60 if traffic around me is moving too fast for 55, and no I am not 70+years of age I'm 21 I just know theres no point in speeding and saving a couple of minutes.

Its about time everyone is in too much of a rush on this shit island it was bound to happen. Hope everyone learned their lesson

Im not being pessimistic either; the only way you can thumbs down this is if you don't live here and deal with everyone's shit excuse for driving. I wonder how many of the 30 were on there cell phones, next time you drive down the LIE count how many people are going over 65 texting or chatting away on their phones, it's sick, it was bound to happen.

The LIE is a horribly dangerous road, and over the years it seems to have only gotten worse. I myself have a bit of a lead foot and you can find me driving roughly 70-75mph on occasions, but I will NOT even look at my cell while on the expressway especially at those speeds. One afternoon, around the lunch time rush, I was driving a steady 70 and LITERALLY every car was flying passed me, all of them going at least 80-90MPH. I have had a lot of close calls on the expressway every time is was someone just ahead of me in the lane to my right deciding to cut over into my lane while I'm in their blind spot. The vast majority of those close calls were women on their cell phones….

I was on the LIE, right by that exit about 20 minutes before this happened. That area was all condensed to one lane because of road work, if you were sitting in the single line of cars and the truck came pummeling behind you, you wouldn't be able to do a thing to get out of the way.

the speed limits not even the issue… the cars start to back up after going over the bridge of 68, u cant see anything over the bridge untill ur actually at the top of it, so when you reach the top of the bridge you have to slam on your breaks because everyones stopped, caught me off guard and i was only going around 60 if not under, and therees one lane of traffic due to construction which doesnt make anything better
